• 2 September: Henry Hudson's ship, the Half Moon, arrives in New York Harbor.
• 6 September: Five of Hudson's men exploring via rowboat are attacked by the native population. Two sailors are wounded, and John Coleman is killed.
• 12 September: Hudson weighs anchor and sails up the Hudson River.
