- 10 August: The Dutch West India Company gives Michael Pauw a patronship that includes Staten Island.
- A map published by Johannes de Laet features the names "Manhattan," "New Amsterdam," and "North River" for the first time.
- The colony begins to make money this year; 113,000 guilders in goods is imported while 130,000 guilders worth is exported.
