The Empire State Building is an American cultural icon, and one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers. The building was named after the nickname for New York: Empire State. From 1931 to 1971, it stood as the tallest building in the world until it was surpassed by the World Trade Center's North Tower. However, in 2001, it regained its title as the tallest building in New York after the September 11 attacks. The Empire State Building will once again be the second tallest building in New York once the One World Trade Center is completed.

Upon completion, the Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world, and held this title for almost 40 years.

DesignEdit

It has an art-deco design, much like the Chrysler Building, although the Chrysler Building represents the theme in a more abstract way.
